Ignition Repair by an Auto Locksmith

Many individuals do not know that locksmiths actually repair ignitions besides unlocking your vehicles or providing car keys. People often take their vehicles to the mechanic at their local dealership for ignition repairs thus paying a whole lot more at the dealership, or they try to replace the ignition themselves. Sometimes, the switch only needs to be repaired, other times the switch may need to be replace, which costs more and what the dealerships usually do as they are not trained to repair iginition switches.

Symptoms of Ignition Problems

Some factory installed ignitions come with their own set of problems, where others become problematic with the simple usage of the key over a period of time and eventually the metal shavings clog the ignition to were they wedge themselves in the moving parts. You will begin to notice a problem such as difficulty in turning the ignition key, the ignition sticking, feeling gritty or dirty when inserting or removing the key, the key becoming locked into the “on” or “accessory” position, unable to remove the key and of course the dreaded result, unable to start the vehicle as the key is “stuck”. You will receive advice like, hit the key until it comes loose (or breaks off) use WD40 (which just makes a bigger wet mess). Do not do any of these things, rather call a locksmith who does ignition repair before too much damage is done and particularly when you first notice the problem.

Ignition Repair By A Locksmith

By telling the locksmith the make and model of the vehicle, they are often able to determine what the problem is. They fix broken and stuck ignitions and often are available to come to your location, thus saving the cost of an expensive tow. If you can still turn the key and the vehicle will start, the locksmith will determine the best option which could include remove, rekey and replace or it maybe just a simple ignition repair. If the key is stuck, they will drill and replace. There is no hope of repairing the ignition at this stage, so costs will be higher. Auto locksmithing is just one of the many services that are provided.
